Calcium Score

What does it consist of?

The Calcium Score is performed using a Computed Tomography, also known as Multidetector CT, which allows quantifying the presence of calcium inside the coronary arteries, determining the location and extent of arterial calcification. The higher the coronary calcium score, the greater the amount of plaque found on the arterial wall and the greater the risk of heart attack.

Who is it for?

This test is performed particularly on patients with cardiovascular risk factors, such as arterial hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, smoking, and a family history of ischemic heart disease.

Instructions

How should you prepare?

Our medical team will accompany you to the room where the CT is located and will accommodate you on a stretcher. Next, we will place some electrodes to monitor your heart and we will introduce you inside the scanner and by means of a sophisticated multi-detector imaging system we will evaluate the presence of calcium in the coronary arteries.

It is a simple, non-invasive, quick, painless test that does not use contrast and emits a low dose of radiation. The radiation dose from this test is comparable to the radiation used in a test as common as mammography.
